Charlie Gross
M.A., L.M.H.C.

Charlie Gross is a Brooklyn-based psychotherapist, photographer and Co-Founder of Sounds of Saving, a music-centered mental health non-profit that focuses on mental health advocacy and actions in youth and young adult communities. In the 1990s, Charlie was a personal touring photographer for Beck among other music clients as well as a documentary and fine artist. His recent photographic work includes a long-term artist residency at Kings County Psychiatric Hospital in which he used collaborative photography and oral history-taking with young-adult patients to share their life and mental health stories. This work was supported by the Economic Hardship Reporting Project and published in The New York Review of Books. As a clinician, Charlie has treated young adult patients with substance use and psychiatric disorders at the Weill Cornell Medical Center, done extensive research at Weill Cornell on Psychotherapy for Anxiety Disorders and remains active in private practice. He has a variety of publications in journals such as The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry and The Journal of Urban Health. He holds a BA in Comparative Literature from Columbia University and an MA in Clinical Psychology from the Graduate Center of The City University of New York. Underlying his career-long work in both clinical and artistic areas is a focus on the overlap between creativity, personal narrative and mental health interventions.
