
Channing Shippen, PhD, MT-BC, is an assistant professor and Coordinator of Clinical Placements in Music Therapy at Belmont University. She holds a PhD in Music Therapy from Temple University, where her dissertation explored the role of music therapy in identity, community, and healing among people experiencing homelessness. She also holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music Therapy from Berklee College of Music.
With over a decade of clinical experience, Channing has worked in a wide range of medical and community settings. She previously served as a music therapist at the Jimmy Fund Clinic in Boston and was the founding Director of Music Therapy at Tufts Children's Hospital/Tufts Medical Center. Her work has also spanned elder care, hospice, and adolescent mental health. Channing's clinical expertise includes program development for populations across the lifespan, including NICU, pediatrics, adults, and individuals at the end of life.
She has served the profession in leadership roles, including as Vice President of the New England Region of the American Music Therapy Association (2017-2021). Now based in Nashville, TN, Channing integrates academic, clinical, and research work with a commitment to community-centered care.
